“It’s hard to say no to Caroline,” said Louis de Meckenheim, Chopard’s chief marketing and communication officer, with a smile. This was in full evidence this week at Chopard’s annual grand soiree in Cannes, which celebrated the brand’s Red Carpet line and where this year Caroline Scheufele, Chopard copresident and artistic director, presented her first couture collection.

In honor of the 76th Cannes Film Festival, 76 high-jewelry creations accompanied 50 richly textured and embellished couture looks—all designed by Scheufele—down a runway at the glitzy Hôtel Martinez on a lineup of models led by Cindy Bruna, Martha Hunt, and Petra Nemcova. Closing the show was a murderers’ row of ’90s supermodel titans: Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova, and Natalia Vodianova.

Scheufele, whose beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Byron sat by her side on the runway, envisioned the collection as a vibrant tribute to the women actors who walk the film festival’s renowned red carpet. “Our creations are as multifaceted as the array of personalities who inspire them,” she said. Even without a traditional fashion-design background, Scheufele “just knows how to make her jewels even more beautiful,” de Meckenheim said.

The theme of the evening was art, from the jewelry and fashions to the dining room festooned with roses and neon pink accents, the culinary arts of the menu, and dance performances punctuating the Mediterranean-inspired feast. Kate Beckinsale and Ashley Graham sat alongside Poppy Delevingne and Charles Melton, one of the stars of Todd Haynes’s buzzy May December (which impressed audiences earlier this week at the festival), all dressed in Chopard. Also in attendance among 300 guests were the ​​K-pop group and Chopard ambassadors Aespa, along with British Vogue editor Edward Enninful and Korean screen legend Song Kang-ho.

Capping the dinner was a surprise performance by Robbie Williams, who performed jazzy classics as well as his own hits before the guests filed out to the after-party (and then the after-after-party). One partygoer remarked, “This was the event everyone wanted to get into.” After all, they continued, “Caroline’s jewels make everyone glittery.”
